Clears Braces and Invisalign
If you wish your teeth could be straighter but can't bear the thought of having metal wires and brackets in your mouth, invisible braces may be the ideal solution for you! At the Kurpis Center for Advanced Dentistry, we use the Invisalign® method as an exceptional alternative to traditional wire braces. Invisalign® is an orthodontic treatment technique using removable clear trays called aligners. These aligners are custom made, fit right over the contours of your teeth, and are virtually "invisible." Hardly anyone will notice you are straightening your teeth! Invisalign® aligners can be used to correct a broad range of cases, including mal-aligned teeth, spaces between teeth, crowded teeth, crossbites, underbites, and overbites.
The Invisalign® technique is simple and straightforward. Before you even begin your treatment, you will meet with our prosthodontist who has specialty training in advanced restorative dental care and Invisalign® techniques. He will discuss your case and will show you an animation of your teeth moving in slow motion until they are straight. This animation is coordinated with a time stamp so you can track your progress each week and know exactly when you will be finished with treatment. Unlike traditional wire braces, there is no guess work involved in estimating how long it will take to straighten your teeth.
When you begin treatment to correct crooked or mal-aligned teeth, an impression is taken of your teeth and is sent to the Invisalign® laboratory. At the laboratory, the impression is scanned into a computer where advanced software calculates how to straighten the teeth, how long the process will take, and how to design the custom aligners. Once the aligners are fabricated, they are returned to our prosthodontist. He will give you three sets of aligners at a time. You will be instructed to wear the aligners about 20 hours per day, removing them only to eat, brush, and floss. You must return to our office every six weeks to check your tooth movement and to pick up new sets of aligners. Aligners are designed to move your teeth in small increments until the desired final position is reached. As each aligner is replaced with the next, your teeth will begin to move gradually. This cutting edge approach to straightening teeth has minimal interference in your every day life. Aligners do not obstruct speech, can be removed when eating, and are comfortable to wear. They also do not have many of the side effects of traditional wire braces, including gum irritation, root resorption, plaque build-up, and tooth demineralization and decay. Unlike wire braces, Invisalign® aligners are virtually undetectable, and the results are often very dramatic.
